Diary of an average angler

Who favours traditional methods & baits

fisherman

This diary dates back to a holiday in 2003 when I think the urge to get back into fishing took off. From around 2007 the trips became more frequent with 2010/11 probably being the peak of activity.
Things again pick up in 2020 - a sort of rebirth!

Baits: Hemp seed & sweet corn feed, corn, prawn, cheese paste & artificial casters on the hook.

Back to Fields End after my hip operation having missed the summer. After a few mild days the temperature had dropped and a fierce NW wind made things difficult.

River Great Ouse - Offord (12)

Mill Stream

Arrival time: 10.00 in car park
Weather: Overcast but not too cold with a fresh wind.
Tackle: 12' Korum Multi-feeder, simple SSG link, 6lb line, 8 hook.
Baits: Cheese paste.
Fish: 4 chub

First fishing trip after a hip replacement in August and although only 2½ hours, it was quite successful with two nice chub.

Exploring OBAS waters

Offord

I have a ticket for the Offord & Buckden AS club and as I'm still not able to fish I decided to explore a section of its waters that I hadn't looked at previously. I also checked out areas that I had fished which proved to be quite frustrating as conditions appeared ideal. I yearn for the day when my hip recovery is such that I can again sit and fish by a river.

Exploring a new stream

Trout Stream - Houghton

Having recovered sufficiently from my recent hip replacement, and been given permission to drive by the consultant, I set off to check out a small fairly local stream. It turned out to be very challenging and certainly not something I could take on until I'm much fitter.
I made a couple of mistakes in my commentary. It is Meadow Lane and not Mill Lane. And the angling club is Houghton Wyton & Hemingford, not Huntingdon.

Update

New hip & other stuff

An update on my replacement hip and my prospects for getting back to fishing, along with some new fishing related stuff that I've recently acquired.

Update

Hip problem & outtakes

You can view the video on this page or open YouTube by clicking the YouTube icon above.

Those who have been watching my videos will know that I have been struggling for a while with a hip problem and in this video I provide an update, which basically amounts to the fact I need a hip replacement.
To lighten the mood I've also added some outtakes from earlier fishing trips where things didn't quite go to plan.
I hope to be back fishing later in the year when I will of course expect to upload some more episodes of Bob Goes Fishing.
